Calgary

Calgary i/ˈkælɡᵊri/ is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. In the 2011 census, the City of Calgary had a population of 1,096,833 and a metropolitan population of 1,214,839, making it the largest city in Alberta, and the third-largest municipality and fifth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada.

The economy of Calgary includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors. The Calgary CMA is home to the second-highest number of corporate head offices in Canada among the country's 800 largest corporations.

Calgary anchors the south end of what Statistics Canada defines as the "Calgary–Edmonton Corridor".

In 1988, Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Olympic Winter Games.

Farmers' market

A farmers' market (also farmers market) is a physical retail market featuring foods sold directly by farmers to consumers. Farmers' markets typically consist of booths, tables or stands, outdoors or indoors, where farmers sell fruits, vegetables, meats, and sometimes prepared foods and beverages. They are distinguished from public markets, which are generally housed in permanent structures, open year-round, and offer a variety of non-farmer/producer vendors, packaged foods and non-food products.

Farmers' markets exist worldwide and reflect their local culture and economy. Their size ranges from a few stalls to several city blocks. In some cultures, live animals, imported delicacies unavailable locally, and personal goods and crafts are sold.

History

The current concept of a farmers' market is similar to past concepts, but different in relation to other forms – as aspects of consumer retailing, overall, continue to shift over time. Similar forms existed before the Industrial age but, were often part of broader markets, where suppliers of food and other goods gathered to retail their wares. Trading posts began a shift toward retailers who sold others' products more than their own. General stores and grocery stores continued that specialization trend in retailing, optimizing the consumer experience, while abstracting it further from production and production's growing complexities.

Fun Farm

Fun Farm was an early Australian television series television. Debuted 29 October 1956, the series aired live on Sydney station TCN-9. Along with the likes of Fun Fair (HSV-7),The Judy Jack Show (HSV-7), Happy Show (GTV-9), Children's TV Club (ABC) and Captain Fortune Show (ATN-7), it represented an early example of Australian-produced children's television programming. Fun Farm ended in April 1957, at which point TCN-9 began another locally produced children series, Desmond and the Channel 9-Pins.

The series was aimed at children from ages four to twelve, compered and produced by Pat Mondel, with her receiving more than 3000 letters from children within the first few weeks of the program.

It is not known if the show was ever kinescoped.

    Farm

A farm is an area of land that is devoted primarily to agricultural processes with the primary objective of producing food and other crops; it is the basic facility in food production. The name is used for specialised units such as arable farms, vegetable farms, fruit farms, dairy, pig and poultry farms, and land used for the production of natural fibres, biofuel and other commodities. It includes ranches, feedlots, orchards, plantations and estates, smallholdings and hobby farms, and includes the farmhouse and agricultural buildings as well as the land. In modern times the term has been extended so as to include such industrial operations as wind farms and fish farms, both of which can operate on land or sea.

Farming originated independently in different parts of the world as hunter gatherer societies transitioned to food production rather than food capture. It may have started about 12,000 years ago with the domestication of livestock in the Fertile Crescent in western Asia, soon to be followed by the cultivation of crops. Modern units tend to specialise in the crops or livestock best suited to the region, with their finished products being sold for the retail market or for further processing, with farm products being traded around the world.

Canada (i/ˈkænədə/; French: [ka.na.da]) is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres (3.85 million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area and the fourth-largest country by land area. Canada's border with the United States is the world's longest land border. Canada is sparsely populated, the majority of its land territory being dominated by forest and tundra and the Rocky Mountains; about four-fifths of the country's population of 35 million people live near the southern border. The majority of Canada has a cold or severely cold winter climate, but southerly areas are warm in summer.

The land now called Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the 15th century, British and French colonies were established on the Atlantic coast, with the first establishment of a region called "Canada" occurring in 1537. As a consequence of various conflicts, the United Kingdom gained and lost territories within British North America until left, in the late 18th century, with what mostly geographically comprises Canada today. Pursuant to the British North America Act, on July 1, 1867, the colonies of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia joined to form the autonomous federal Dominion of Canada. This began an accretion of provinces and territories to the self-governing Dominion to the present ten provinces and three territories forming modern Canada. In 1931, Canada achieved near total independence from the United Kingdom with the Statute of Westminster 1931, and full sovereignty was attained when the Canada Act 1982 removed the last remaining ties of legal dependence on the British parliament.

    • Calgary, Banff & Lake Louise | Alberta, Canada Travel Diary

In mid August I had a 5 day trip to Calgary Alberta. We spent the trip exploring the city, visiting the Rockys and meeting new people. The trip started out a little rough with little sleep and a 5 hour flight delay. Once we arrived we did a day trip to Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, & Banff. The main purpose of the trip was to attend Mark and Ashleys wedding, which was beautiful. It was such a wonderful 5 days and I fell in love with Alberta. _________ Most Recent Main Channel Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBS0h-F4B0s&t=12s Latest Vlog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3sApJssfw8 _________ SOCIALS // Twitter: https://twitter.com/ClassicKatieYT // Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/classickatieyt // Vlog Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA-w... // Pinterest: http://pint...

https://www.expedia.com/Vancouver.d178315.Destination-Travel-Guides Vancouver’s breezes carry the scents of nature and aromas of all the urban delights you’d expect from a city regularly voted, “the Worlds most livable”. The city takes its name from the British navigator who landed here in 1792. The original settlement was called “Gastown”, in honor of Gassy Jack, who built the city’s first tavern. Gassy Jack and his makeshift pub may be long gone, but in the historic neighborhood of Gastown, his spirit lingers on. Vancouver’s early history continues at Waterfront Station, the western terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The railway’s construction brought Chinese workers by the thousands, whose descendants have enriched Vancouver ever since. Experience this interweaving of cultu...

These are my carefully selected top 10 travel tips for Calgary & Alberta and includes the best places, travel tips and things to do in Banff & Calgary ranging from the most famous hot dog, a helicopter ride with Rockies Heli Tours to the most beautiful place in Canada called Lake Louise. Subscribe to my channel ► https://bit.ly/2aeuh9b for weekly videos! Maps, address, photos & my personal advise on my blog: http://www.reformatt.com/10-travel-tips-calgary-alberta I decided to visit my friends from Holland who were exploring the Canadian Rockies with their RV, before chasing them down in Banff I treated myself on the most famous hot dog in Canada at Tubby Dog and tried to break the glass floor at the Calgary Tower. Photos, guide, maps & details on my blog: http://www.reformatt.com/10-travel-tips-calgary-alberta It was such a memorable experience meeting my Dutch friends on the other side of the world so we decided to do it up proper with a family BBQ and a few local brewski's, namely the Powder Hound by The Grizzly Paw which is a local brewery in Canmore, Alberta. On our first adventure we left in the early morning to take the Banff Gondola to Sulphur Mountain, one of the most mesmerizing views of Banff. Make sure to fill up prior on a classic Canadian breakfast at Tim Hortons, the Canadian way. The next adventure was a private helicopter ride at Rockies Heli Canada who took us from Kananaskis through the Rocky Mountains. It was a gorgeous clear day which resulted in excellent video footage. We even saw the same river where they shot the movie: The Revenant. What also amazed us were the buck loads of wildlife passing by the RV throughout our stay at Banff's tunnel mountain campgrounds. In next week's article I will give you all the details on our adventure at Lake Louise were I completed an 11 hour, 20 kilometer hike, thus best is to relax and relieve your sore muscles at Banff Upper Hot Springs after that trip. In conclusion we were very fortunate that we had excellent weather with blue skies the entire trip. I highly recommend visiting Calgary, Banff & Lake Louise in the first week of June for the best experience. St. Petersburg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ISUUO0CSo Kyoto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd1wzlwtKJ0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Banff, located in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, is one part resort town and one part breathtaking natural retreat. Life is a little different at over 4,600 feet in elevation—by the way, that makes Banff Canada’s highest town. During your Banff sightseeing, you’ll learn that the town’s residents and visitors are a lively bunch, and you’ll find the local businesses are perfect for this festive crowd. Choose from over 100 restaurants to dine at, or stop by one or two of the dozens of pubs and cafes for an inexpensive snack and drink after walking through the many boutiques. You can also enjoy a marvelous time after the sun goes down; try dancing the night away at the Dancing Sasquatch, or visiting one of Banff’s other nightclubs. Banff National Park is known for its wildlife, some of which frequents Banff itself. You’ll often spot deer at the outskirts of town, some of which are friendly and curious about people. Once you say hello to the deer, make the drive to nearby Johnston Canyon, where you can take in snow-capped alpine scenery straight out of a fairy tale. Warm up after all this time spent outside: head to the Banff Upper Hot Springs. // Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/classickatie // VSCO: http://vsco.co/katie-campbell/grid/1 // Snapchat: ClassicKatieYT FREE STUFF // Free First Uber Ride: katiec6694ue _____ ABOUT ME Hi friends! https://www.expedia.com/Vancouver.d178315.Destination-Travel-Guides Vancouver’s breezes carry the scents of nature and aromas of all the urban delights you’d expect from a city regularly voted, “the Worlds most livable”. Experience this interweaving of cultures in Chinatown, where the fusing of Oriental flavors with local seafood has helped earn the city the title, “the Culinary Capital of Canada.” After visiting Vancouver’s central highlights, ride the ferry to Granville Island. Stock up on provisions at the Granville Island Public Market and sample craft ales at Granville Island Brewing. From Granville Island, head to Queen Elizabeth Park on Little Mountain, a peaceful oasis high above the city. When it’s time to answer the call of the wild, cross the Lions Gate Bridge to The North Shore, a wilderness where bears roam and salmon-filled rivers flow through old-growth forests. Less than a two-hour drive from the city is Whistler Blackcomb Resort, the largest ski resort in North America. The beautifully connected runs here cater to all skill levels and attract elite skiers and beginners from all over the globe.

2017 Railway Days at Heritage Park in Calgary. ALCo #2023 had just come out of an overhaul and a repaint, so she is looking glorious! Kind of wish they'd painted with a Tuscan red panel on the tender and cab sides though. I elected to cut out the turntable demo, due to the mechanical issues they were having with the turntable, and I didn't get any footage of model layouts Also included is the operation of the railway steam crane. That crane has been at the park as long as I can remember, and has finally been restored to operating condition.

    • Calgary by Viper #10 v.2: Belly of the Beast (+15)

I travel entirely within the +15 system from the Harry Hays Building to the creepy Sandman Hotel, where Stanley Kubrick filmed The Shining. Count the Starbucks! In these videos I travel throughout Calgary, Alberta, Canada from my home in the inner-city northwest using my Team Hybrid Viper (a powered wheel that attaches to the front of my regular RGK wheelchair). I am usually going about 18kph (11.5mph) on the flats, although in one video I get up to 40kph. Calgary is a very open, clean, and accessible city that is well suited for bike travel. Note that these videos and my driving skills (or lack thereof) are in no way endorsed by either Team Hybrid or the City of Calgary, and should not be emulated.

I’ve seen quite a number of instances where a very large number of worms are started with and while there is nothing wrong with that I feel it not only detracts from the purpose but is wholly unnecessary as worms will regulate their population in containers so you risk simply a huge waste of money and worms right out the gate.

We all eat food and have a vested interest in it, but do we fully understand the costs and challenges associated with our consumption? As consumers, we are increasingly taking an active interest in where our food comes from and how that impacts the environment, our communities and our health. Local urban and peri-urban agriculture production is resurging, but how does this fit into our global food system and what are the challenges in securing a sustainable food system in our city and beyond? Join our panel of experts for a roundtable discussion that explores the future of food over the next 20 years in Calgary and beyond. Our speakers will address a variety of issues around food in southern Alberta, and how they fit into the global food system. The panel Marit Rosol, Tier II Canada Research Chair in Global Urban Studies, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, University of Calgary Kris Vester, Owner & Operator of Blue Mountain Biodynamic Farm, President of Slow Food Calgary, Alumnus Kristi Peters-Snider, Sustainability Consultant at the City of Calgary, Office of Sustainability Scott Pohorelic, Chef & Instructor at SAIT Culinary, former Head Chef of River Cafe Moderator Julie Van Rosendaal, CBC Radio One host, author of 7 best-selling cookbooks, columnist and editor for numerous newspapers and food magazines across Canada

The following information is from a newspaper article in the summer of 1953 - likely Canandaigua's 'Daily Messenger'. The article started with: "Mr. and Mrs. Everett Blazey of the Rochester Road and members of the family are the central characters in a 16mm color film being made on the Blazey farm for the Ford Motor Company. This film entitled "The American Farmer" is being made by MPO Productions of New York for inclusion in the Ford Motor Company's series, "Americans at Home". With one exception the entire cast is made up of the Blazey family and their neighbors. William (Tony) Imof, a non-professional actor from New York will be included in portions of the film. (The article further describes how the 600 acre Blazey farm nearly fit the requirements for the film.) The Blazey farm produces cash crops such as peas, hay, grain, dry beans and sweet and field corn and usually carries between 50 to 100 Holstein heifer feeders. The 30 minute movie will show the everyday activities of Mr. and Mrs. Blazey ; their son Everett Jr., who farms as a partner of his father; a younger son, Edward; and a daughter Roberta. The Blazey's have two other daughters, Mrs. William Borncamp and Mrs. Richard E. Hook whose homes are both near Cheshire. Long active in community affairs and farm association work, Mr. Blazey holds the following offices; a member of the executive committee of the Ontario County Farm Bureau; president of the Ontario County Agricultural Society and a director of the Farm and Home Bureau and 4-H Club Association. In addition, he is vice president of the Farmers Production Credit Association, a director of Thompson Hospital, a Justice of the Peace in the Town of Farmington, a member of the advisory committee of the Canandaigua Office of the Lincoln Rochester Trust Company and a director of the Genessee Valley Regional Marketing Authority. He is also a trustee of the Perinton Methodist Church. His hobby is flying his own light plane and he is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and a charter member of the New York State Flying Farmers Associations. Fully as active, Mrs. Blazey is chairman of the County Home Bureau Executive Committee, a member of the executive committee of the county 4-H Clubs, former chairman of the Mertensia Home Bureau Unit and leader of the Jolly Homemakers 4-H Club of which her daughter, Roberta is vice president. She is also active in church and Red Cross work. When the film is completed and edited Mr. Baer (unit manager for MPO Productions) indicated that up to 200 copies will be available through Ford dealers and through other usual channels of distribution for 16 mm movies. With favourable weather, Peasley Bond, unit cameraman, expects to complete operations by Aug 15. Including wives and children 11 members of the NPO production unit are staying at the Greenwood Inn, East Lake Road, Canandaigua. About this YouTube Movie. A digital copy of this film was provided to me via Roberta Blazey a few years ago. It was digitized from a VHS film and hence lost much of the original 16mm quality. However, the story is there and the audio quality is quite good. As a student in Canandaigua Elementary school I can remember seeing this filmed played over the years in our school auditorium. I was always proud of those days - in the mid to late 1960s. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Blazey are now deceased as well as Everett Jr. Edward Blazey lives with his wife Mary in Lima, New York. Robert and her husband Patrick live in Canandaigua. Joan Borncamp (nee Blazey) lives in Canandaigua and Olive Hook (nee Blazey) lives in Kingston, Ontario Canada. More interesting information about the movie was provided by Roberta Bolger (nee Blazey) in April 2015. The cemetery shot was likely recorded at the Hathaway Cemetery across Hwy. 332 from the former King House. There was a cemetery in ‘the back forty’ but it didn’t have an iron fence around it. Hwy 332 is the main highway in front of the Blazey home. Today the Hwy is four lane and all the Blazey buildings are gone with the exception of the large cinder block barn. Mr. and Mrs. Blazey sold the farm many years ago and the property become home to the Finger Lakes Race Track. The Ford Motor Company was concerned that Mr. Blazey did not use Ford equipment (or implements manufactured by Ford) during the harvest. Some of the equipment was International Harvester- a competitor. Ford insisted the harvest scenes be re-filmed with Ford equipment. At this point the harvest was over at the Blazey farm and a new location needed to be found. Ford flew the film crew and Everett Blazey to Calgary, Alberta where grain was still standing and filmed the scene with Ford equipment. Roberta said ‘Dad was wearing a sweater in Alberta and it was way too hot in Canandaigua for wearing a sweater during the harvest’. She noticed MPO Productions also called her Alberta rather than Roberta…maybe they had Calgary on their minds?

This video for Banff Vacation Travel Guide is one of our older productions, but we wanted to share it with you to get some feedback on how these older clips compare to the more recent travel guides we’ve shot. Below are some links to those recent videos. Feel free to compare with this clip and comment below to let us know which ones you prefer, and what else you’d love to see from Expedia on YouTube! This exquisite spa has treated visitors to hot water and stunning views of the Rockies for over a century, and will continue to do so for a century to come. What will you do on your Banff tour? Take a tour of Calgary in Canada -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. Hi! This is your host, Naomi. I would like to show you the top five attractions of Calgary Number five: skyline. Boasting a modern skyline with diverse arcitecture, Calgary is a great urban city with opportunities for dining, shopping and entertainment. Number four: Calgay Zoo. Including a botanical garden, the zoo has been here for 75 years. Interacting with wildlife here makes for an excellent family outing. Number three: City Hall. Considered to be a national historic site, this magnificent sandstone structure was constructed in 1911, in place of an earlier wooden structure. Number two: Banff National Park. Located outside of Calgary, this great national park of Canada is spread over a massive area, and offers spectacular mountain scenery. And number one: Calgary Tower. Constructed in 1968, the iconic tower is one of the tallest structures in Canada. At the top, you are treated to an excellent view of Calgary. Hope you enjoyed this video. See you next time.

// Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/classickatie // VSCO: http://vsco.co/katie-campbell/grid/1 // Snapchat: ClassicKatieYT FREE STUFF // Free First Uber Ride: katiec6694ue _____ ABOUT ME Hi friends!
